UTI not cured by Macrobid, now trying Augmentin

I had E coli in my urine. I took a round of Macrobid and it helped, but didn't totally cure the infection. Now I'm taking Augmentin. My doctor wanted to give my Cipro but I'm allegic. This is the next best thing she told me. But I read online that E Coli is tough to kill and Cipro is the only drug that is assured to kill it.

I was given Augmenting 1000mg XR 2 x a day. A very high dose obviously, but my doctor wants to get this out of me seeing it has been over 2-3 weeks now with no relief.

Anyone know if the Augmentin is good for UTI's or not?

It sounds like they did a culture since they know it was e-coli. Did they do a sensitivity test to see which antibiotic would work best? My culture came back with e-coli and I was put on Omnicef.

The macrobid showed sensitivity to the UTI and it didn't work. So strange. I have been struggling really bad with this and after 3 full days of being on the Augmentin I still don't feel any better.
