Question regarding Acid Reflux/Stress

I'm 29/m, and suffer from IBS and am always nervous about everything. For the past week, I have been having the feeling of burping up food and pressure in my throat. Went to see the doctor, and he prescribed some medicine for Acid Reflux which hasnt worked yet, but it seems the medicine could take a while to work after reading some of these posts. Now, for the past day and a half, I have lost my appetite (although still eating and still getting hunger pains every now and then) and now developed loose bowel movements.

All this has happened in less than a week. I am worrying about this 24/7. Am I stressing myself out making myself sick? Thats what everyone is telling me and I should just relax. I guess I'm worried it can be something serious. Anyone suffer from anything similiar to this?

Re: Question regarding Acid Reflux/Stress

I had all of that as a result of my basic GERD/Hiatal Hernia symptoms. All of a sudden I couldn't breathe well and my throat always felt like something was stuck. I'm like you in that I worry all the time and have to take 50mg of Zoloft a day or I have severe anxiety. I lost my appetite although I still had hunger pains. I didn't want to eat for fear my breathing would get worse and the food would get stuck.

The medicine does take awhile to work. Especially if it's the delayed release tablets. I am on Nexium and it will take 6 weeks for my recovery. I have gastritis, esophagitis, acid in my lungs and acid on my vocal chords. I have also been on Pamine Forte, Zegerid & Protonix. For that feeling of choking they put me on Karafate which is a liquid and that finally did the trick. It also soothes the burning sensation that sometimes arises. See if they will do that for you.

If you ever need to talk with someone you are always welcome to talk with me.

Good Luck!

Re: Question regarding Acid Reflux/Stress

Wow, that put some worrying to ease! Thanks for the response! These symptoms are so uncomfortable, I was thinking of going to the ER, but it hasnt even been a week yet. Come to think of it, the doctor did say 4-6 weeks for treatment and if no results, go see a Gastro. I need to get my mind off of this, hopefully leaving the house tonight will help me.

Re: Question regarding Acid Reflux/Stress

I also went to the ER twice and each time they sent me home a $100 poorer. I was told it was GERD and that I would not stop breathing completely. They gave me medication but it does take 4 - 6 weeks. Give it time and then seek other medical treatment. Just make sure you don't drink any alcohol because that will severely aggravate it.

Re: Question regarding Acid Reflux/Stress

Well, since I see you live in SA, I went to the Texas Medclinic Thurs. and I guess that is kind of a "ER". I think I am overreacting, thinking it is something more serious. My breathing is fine, its just the loss of appetite that is bothering me, although I am still somehow eating. Again, thanks for responding so fast, I think you made my day!
