Endo Appt this week.........

Saw my Endo this week......his personal problems are better so he is back seeing patients........I am glad because I really really like this guy.....

There are many newbies on the board so I will give a recap........

I am 54 and my symptoms started at 47........sudden fatigue, sudden high blood pressure, sudden depression, poor concentration, and a 30 pound weight gain and high trigylerides............alll suddenly.....I was told it was my age, going into menopause, to push myself away from the table ( always a 7 and suddenly a 14?) I had anti depressants push at me and on and on...I just tried to live with it always knowing something was WRONG........ about a year ago pressure in my throat sent me back to the Doctor and that is how I found my goiter and nodules...........then it was take it out ? Watch it? I had 4 + Opinions and decided to keep my thyroid.....it was upset and torture making those decisions.......nothing clear cut.

I know I have a goiter, multiple nodules, a very low functioning thyriod and I also have insulin resistance...They call it Metabolic syndrome..... they feel I have had this at least 10 years............sooooooooooooo yes I am feeling better but it took me thousand of dollars and many Doctors to get this figured out........I am on Armour, Monopril for BP and Metformin for insulin resistance..........I have to say the Metformin has made the biggest difference in how I feel and has knocked the weight off of me........MY goiter is smaller now from the Armour and my cancer levels are normal and my nodules have not grown......

On the whole I am feeling much better........not as anxious, not consumed by thoughts of my nodules....I am actually living life.........the Endo tells me my high insulin has lot's to do with moods and I should be feeling better.........I have almost lost 30 pounds now...........it has taken me 14 months........I also go to the gym everyday...........

So he is going to recheck all my labs again in 6 weeks........all thyroid labs plus cancer level labs and blood sugar labs.....he says if they look good I can go to 6 months then 1 year............ He feels my thyroid problem and nodules are hereditary and just need to be watched.....

Hope this helps someone.... this board is awesome.....................best of luck...........Oleander

Wow! He sounds like a great doc! I'm so glad you're finally getting some answers.

Was wondering what you'd been up to lately.

Re: Endo Appt this week.........

Thanks for response......

A calm came over me after I had the cancer level blood work and a scan for hot vs cold nodule...all looked okay......I like this new Endo, he listens and seems to have a brain....

So I have just been living life..working, kids are off to their 2nd year of college........thinking about moving..........but mostly feeling much much better. It is nice to not be obsessed by my thyroid..........

I still read and watch the board to see if I can be of any help and you never know when thyroid trouble may rear it's ugly head again......everyone is so helpful here. I also like seeing how everyone is doing and learning about this very complicated disorder.

thanks so much..... Oleander

Hi Ole that's great news you're feeling good and have got the dx. What blood tests did they do for the cancer check, was it Carcinoembryonic Ag acronym CEA ?

Cheers
Pam

Hi Oleander

I haven't been around for a long time.
Glad to hear you're doing well

I nearly spit my coffee when you said Endo with a brain
