Metformin questions, Januvia questions

I was on Januvia for a few months and it was working quite well. I finally got in to see my new dr. and he changed me over to Metformin (said it may help w/ weight loss). He thought the Januvia was too new of a drug to keep me on. I tried the Metformin for two weeks and the side effects were very managable. I did notice my blood sugars were higher on the metfomin then the Januvia. I was taking it after breakfast and dinner. I then noticed that I was having irregular heartbeats on Friday all day and I know that could be a nasty side effect of the metformin so I stopped taking it and the heart issue went away. Now I'm worried about taking the Metformin and i'm thinking of hopping back on the Januvia. I have to take something cause my blood sugars have been quite high.

Anyone else have irregular heart beat issues on Metformin?
Anyone else using Januvia w/ success?

Re: Metformin questions, Januvia questions

I'm on ActoPlus Metformin and Januvia. No heart irregularities at all. Really no side affects on any. Been on both for about 3 months and levels have dropped to the normal range (unless I'm "bad" ) My cardiologist told me the combination was really good!
Good luck to you!!

Januvia?

Sounds good, frankly. I've been looking around for another supplement to Metformin since Avandia is in trouble. I take Glipizide too, and A1c's are usually 6.5 but I'm so long-term T2 I have most of the complications, advanced proliferative retinopathy, foot ulcer, on a bunion, which gets infected and can cause amputation.

Thanks for introducting us to this new drug I never heard of. Think I will do a web search about it. Keep us posted if you find out anything more, okay?
