Re: low libido on birth control pills

When it comes to libido and oral contraceptives, it's a real hit or miss game. Some brand may work great for one person, and have awful libido lowering effects on the next.

Yasmin is considered one of the "better" choices for this problem. However, if it's not working for you don't be afraid to work with your doctor to try new things until you find what fits.

I've experienced a really good increase in libido by switching from Alesse to Loestrin Fe. Loestrin Fe is also considered one of the better choices when it comes to the effect on libido.

Don't get fed up and stop trying! There are so many different combinations of hormones, and one will fit you just right if you keep looking!

Best of Luck!

I disagree. I tried every combination possible over the 15 years I was on the pill, and none of them helped. In fact, the harder I tried, the more dead it felt for me. I know there are other women on here who have expressed the same problem, as well. It is my sincere belief that when a woman stays on the pill for long term, sooner or later, it will affect her libido negatively and there's nothing you can do except go off (like I did). It took over a year after quitting but mine is finally back to normal.

Furthermore, there is a reason why the pill is such an effective birth control. It's because sooner or later, majority of women will stop wanting to have sex all together. And as we all know, abstinence is the only 100% foolproof birth control. So there you have it.

Re: low libido on birth control pills

I think you are disregarding the fact that libido is not a strictly biological function. You claimed that your libido had decreased with each new drug. Sometimes it's necessary to look at the simple fact that libido will naturally decrease in women over time.

Also, I don't know when this 15 year span was. There have been many advancements in oral contraceptives since they were introduced. Some of the brands that were causing problems for you aren't necessarily the only options left for women today.

Excuse me if I'm misdating you because you didn't provide that information.

Also, because not every women experiences decreased libido, and not every woman stops having sex while on oral contraceptives, I don't think that the efficacy of Oral Contraceptives is based on women being forced by the evil pharmaceutical companies into unwanted abstinence.

Tracy -

Try Ovcon-35. I never had a libido problem on it, in fact, it actually increased my drive. It is a very 'hit or miss' thing, though, like the pp said. You just have to find what works for you. Good luck.
