Has my IUD gone bad?

I have had an IUD for about 7 years but just recently I have started menstral cramping for the 1st time since before I had it inserted. Could this be a sign it could be going bad? I know the easy fix is to go to the doctor, but thats a whole new message posting about fear of the Gyno....

Any ideas besides the obvious? help....

i thought they only lasted 5 years??

Yea same as what Kristi said...I think it is only 5 years also unless defferent ones are different for the time period...my sister just had that done and she said it only last for 5 years and right before the 5 years is up you have tot have a visit about having another one put in/getting tubes tied or just not having it done again...

It all depends on if you have the mirena or a copper iud b/c the mirena is good for 5yrs and the copper 10yrs....

Mine was the copper Im pretty sure. Darn, now I have to check....
