Unhappy Doctor and my Adderall

When I moved to Las Vegas I was sent to Physiatrist to get my med's because my doctor was not allowed to give that kind of med. At the time I was on 20 mg's of Concerta which worked well for me but he wanted me on Adderall so he started me at 10 up to 30.
Things we Ok for almost three years until I ruffled his feathers and he didn't like me voicing my thoughts after that it has been one big hassle after another.
He has threatened me about my med's and how he is prescribing an amphetamine and the trouble he can get into and how all the doctors don't give it to their patients anymore. He makes me come into his office every two weeks but is charging for therapy which I have never received using the " I am prescribing a high dose of amphetamines and if you don't want to come every 2 weeks find another doctor and I am in and out in about 10 minutes.
At my visit yesterday he mentioned my coverage doesn't pay much and I got angry.. he has been manipulating me for almost a year and I have continued to go to him out of fear of losing my medications and I don't know what to do?
Personally I don't believe it is the med's I think he doesn't like me and he is not getting enough money but it is more of dislike for me because I speak up.
Trying to find a doctor that takes my insurance is a huge problem.
I have no idea what I am going to do.
I am so glad I had this place to vent, I feel a tiny bit better.
And I did not even tell you about my visit to the emergency room last night which was a complete disaster.. I am convince doctors don't like me because I question them and being God's they don't like it.
Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated, no doctors Pa Lease.

A miserable Cat

Re: Doctor and my Adderall

This sounds bad, if you have no choice but this doctor. I wonder if you could try some alternative methods after an extremely SLOW weaning off your meds? Sounds like this doctor would just pretty much yank you off them if you asked about quitting, if so, maybe forget about it because cold turkey is no good. I know people who had doctors like that, who threatened to stop writing prescriptions because they wanted to wean off their meds, so they would secretly wean for many, many months while the doc kept giving the prescription.

But if you feel your condition warrants meds and you want to stay on them, I guess you have no recourse but to do as he says. I would, however, start trying to find a new doctor if possible. Good luck.

And yes, alot of doctors hate to be questioned, they do know more than us but not literally everything.....if they knew everything, all disease would be cured, wouldn't it?

Re: Doctor and my Adderall

MzCat,

It's awful when someone in a position of power abuses that power and makes us feel as though we have no other options. However, may I suggest that you do indeed have other options?

You say that "Trying to find a doctor that takes my insurance is a huge problem." This means that it's difficult but probably not impossible. You are being taken advantage of by this doctor. Yes, it's a major hassle looking for a new doctor who is willing to work with your insurance company and prescribe your meds. But it's a major hassle and a lot of stress to go back to this doctor every two weeks. Please consider that working hard now to search for a new doctor may pay off in the long run by allowing you a less stressful way to get your meds.

Please see if you can find someone (friend, co-worker, family member) to help you go throught the phone book and talk to as many doctors as you can to see if you can find a doctor who will treat you with respect. It's a lot of work, but so is going back to this doctor every two weeks and thinking about it between visits.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Doctor and my Adderall

sounds like your doctor is using you to make money! you need a new doctor.

until you find one, try cutting back on the adderall you are taking so that you can stretch it out a little. but don't tell him you are doing that! i take one and a half pills a day now, but my doctor thinks i'm taking two whole pills a day. it isn't a huge difference, but it buys me another week or two before i have to go back to see him again! AND, i don't know why your general practioner can't prescribe adderall. for the last 5 years, i've only gotten my prescriptions from GP's and family doctors... could your GP and psychiatrist be working together?

anyway, look back at my other posts about a good diet, plenty of sleep and exercise as a natural way to control your ADD. perhaps a combination of lowering your dose and those natural methods will help you get by until you find a new doctor?
