Benicar vs. Avapro or Diovan

Currently on Benicar. Would like to know of other's experience with Avapro and or Diovan since my insurance has a lower copay for those($25) than the Benicar($50). Is Benicar worth the extra money?

Re: Benicar vs. Avapro or Diovan

I have no experience with Avapro. I took Diovan for two years and my blood pressure was all over the place. Sometimes it was fine and other times it was borderline. My doctor changed my medication to BENICAR HCT 40/25 and since then my blood pressure averages 105-70 and lower. My readings at night average 90/70..

Re: Benicar vs. Avapro or Diovan

well i have been on meds for 4 years now for hypertension and i have been on diovan for about 8 months now. i love it. i am very steady. i run normally about 110's/70's to the highest being 120/90's when upset or active... and no rollercoasters. i take 80 mg in am. started takend am and pm but noteced in pm got too low. so we took off and its great. but once you fine your dose its a great med. i would give it a try. talk to you dr about a trial period and see how you do on it.

Re: Benicar vs. Avapro or Diovan

Thanks for the suggestion, Luv4Tigger25. I hate changing medications, since this one seems to be working out ok, but any money I can save each month by taking Diovan would help. I have a Thyroid issue that I am dealing with currently, and once that gets situated will ask Dr. about the Diovan.
