Asthma or anxiety?

I've been diagnosed with mild asthma since the age of 7. I take Proventil albuterol inhaler as needed, although it has become multiple times a day for the past few months. I've also been very anxious during this time. Sometimes I feel my chest tightening and difficulty breathing, although my peak flow is normal or even sometimes better than normal. I take a puff, and I seem to breathe a bit better. Is this actually my asthma or anxiety? Sometimes I just can't tell, since both scare me to death. Anyone else? Thanks.

Yea man, i kinda have the same problem. An interesting thing about it is when im just hanging around ill feel tight in the chest, but if i drink(as in alcohol) i feel fine. Which leads me to believe it may be anxiety.

This is a reply to the asmanex post and this one. Get on the daily med. You won't have ANY relief from this rescue inhaler until you do. Yes, being on inhaled steriods for the rest of your life is a pain...and can POSSIBLY over time lower your immune response. However, most people don't have that problem. I've been on Flovent for about 12 years now. No problems for me.
Get your asthma under control and you'll see a real difference.

Re: Asthma or anxiety?

I'm on two controllers Singulair and Allegra and they have for the most part been great. But, when i get cold my asthma comes back. Is this unheard of? Another question concerning a cold when i take singulair is i dont have any symptoms of cold i believe due to singulair, nothing. No soar throat, headaqe, sniffles nothing. The only symptom is flared asthma, anybody else experience this? Also does singulair lower the bodies immune system because this is my 2nd cold in 3 or 4 weeks.
