Exclamation 8 weeks post-op, 1st day back in reg shoes, when does swelling & achiness leave???

Hello everyone,
Well today was an accomplishment for me. I wore my gym shoes, with the toe separator in place. Went out for a bit, shoes actually felt ok...since I was so glad to get out of that velcro boot. But, when I got home was anxious to get the shoe off asmy foor was achey and swollen. Now...for my questions...with me back in reg shoes will that actually help with the swelling?...and when does the achiness subside? I feel the best when I am at home walking around barefoot...anyone experience the same?

Thanks for any suggestions, feedback and your own experiences.

Cool

Hi Maya,
My experience 8-9 weeks post-bunionectomy was pretty similar to yours. I wore reg. shoes during the work day, and went back into the small velcro shoe at home in the evening. I just tried to keep a balance between babying myself and overdoing it. When I had some swelling at the office I put my foot up on my desk, as needed. (It's a rather informal place, luckily!) Most swelling occurred at the end of the day, which the Dr. assured me is completely normal. Tenderness was less and less over the next several weeks, and by week 13 or so, it was not very much at all.
Be well,
Chris

I am 4.5 months post-op and I still have some achiness...and maybe a tiny bit of swelling. I went shopping yesterday, in comfortable shoes, and my foot was really aching after about 4 hours on my feet. I have been getting physical therapy to help with flexibility. I also have a weird situation with the bottom of my foot because of the surgery: I have sort of big "fat pads" on the bottom of my foot because of the way I have had to walk for so many years. So, now that my foot is more normal and I am bearing weight in a different place, it's very uncomfortable. So, the physical therapist is working on this situation. wE'll hope it works as my foot looks great but doesn't feel 100% "normal" yet.
