Your experience with Diuretics
Hi,
Yesterday I have added a Diuretic, indapamine 1.5mg SR, to my medication (Diltiazem 120mg twice daily) to control my BP. I got a little tired and a little dizzy also I can't breathe like before. I want to know if those side effects will disappear as my body adjust to the medication???
Also I have pain my right shoulder and when I stand up I feel very dizzy. Anyway, those side effects are nothing comparing to what I have experienced when I tried ACEs and ARBs.
Have any of you, who is on diuretics, noticed that some changes in diet may help with the side effects? like drinking tea to lower the level of lithium in the body, because diuretics increase it?
Maybe more Sodium in the diet would make the side effects disappear?
I know I don't make sense but maybe there is something we can do to lessen those side effects.
Thanks for help,
Michael

Re: Your experience with Diuretics
I don't know if I would want to take a slow release diuretic, mostly because I haven't read of too many people being on them.
Have you ever tried a low, LOW dose of Furosemide (Lasix)? It is a commonly prescribed diuretic.
If I was having the kind of side effects, from indapamine 1.5mg SR, as you are, I would stop taking it. To me, your increased side effects are a sign that it is flushing too much minerals, etc., out of the body, causing a chemical imbalance.

Re: Your experience with Diuretics
Michael, you had mentioned that your blood pressure was higher during the winter. So, I took my 23,000 records, over the past nine years, and averaged the blood pressure by month. Just looking at the results, without taking into consideration the many changes to diet, lifestyle, environment and medications, it appears that the overall highest months are during the winter months.
This year, in October my blood pressure average ran 122/70, and so far for November, my blood pressure average is running 128/74, and I am noticing increased palpitations.
Of course, I love complaining about a higher average of 128/74, after suffering from chronically unhealthy blood pressure averages of about 160/95 for many years, until I made significant changes to my diet, exercise, environment, lifestyle and medications. If I had just listened to my doctors, and had not been proactive, I am sure, with my heart diseases, that I would have gotten progressively worse and probably died by now.

Re: Your experience with Diuretics
I see, this winter problem makes me very depressed. From Dec to March my blood pressure is not less than 140/100 with my CCB medication. Now I'm worry about the slow release diuretic , it's very confusing.
I see no reason for me to live like that . I feel that I'm in my 70s not in the 20s.
I thought that the Indapamine 1.5mg SR is better than 25mg of HCT for example.
Thanks for help dear and please tell me more, I need your advice.
Michael

Re: Your experience with Diuretics
I have searched online and found that the SR is safer than the IR tablets. Also the SR tablets effect the Potassium balance less than the IR tablets. So I think it's great news because they said it has a 24 hours BP control.
This is my second day and my blood pressure still the same as before, 130/90. I think that I need to live in a hot weather forever in order to maintian optimal health.
beerzoids, are you living in a cold weather place?
