High Blood Pressure.... or not?

OK, so I used to be on 300 mg calcium channel blocker and Avapro 300mg, and my blood pressure used to run about 140/90. About two years ago, I decided I was going to get my butt in gear and lose weight, and I knocked my weight about 70 pounds. I'm still overweight - weighing in at about 195, with 5' 9", medium body type. Still got a nice belly--- but I run every day, 2 miles, and I have a good diet, and I'm trying to lose this extra body weight.

Anyway, my doctor stopped my Calcium channel blocker about a month ago, so now I only take the Avapro 300mg. When I wake up in the morning, my blood pressure is GREAT! 120/80 or less. ONCE IN A BLUE moon (once per week or two), I get like 130/80 in the morning, but its rare. This morning it was 115/62 actually. Mot of the time in the morning it is VERY low, this being before I take my avapro.

Now, once I get moving, if I check it in the middle of the day, it can be as high as 140/80 (for the record, my diastolic is never high). Right now, its before bed, and I just checked it, and I got 135/70. Sometimes before bed its 120/80 - most of the time, unless I'm really stressed, it's never higher than 140/80 though. I think I had ONE reading in the past month when It was 150/90, but I was STRESSED - girlfriend had just met the parents. Took it that night, and it was pretty high.

Anyway, I want to know if my numbers are high enough to where I should go back on the Calcium Channel Blocker. I don't want to, and I'm still losing weight. Do you think it's safe to say give it 6 months and see where I am weight wise? I assume once I lose about another 20 pounds these numbers will be good!

By the way, the numbers I get are from an actual stethescope/sphygmo, not a machine.

Thanks for any advice!

-Matt

Re: High Blood Pressure.... or not?

Hi,

First I don't know what is stethescope/sphygmo. Anyway, I think your readings are fine, 130/80 is great. You need to relax and be happy that you are controlling your blood pressure. Congratulations on the weight loss, I think with few modifications in your diet you can get it to 120/80 all the time .
You don't have to be worry at all, good luck.
Michael

I also agree that you're doing a good job and you don't need more meds with the bp you have. Lose the rest of the weight and you'll be even better!
