has anyone tried carafate

Hello everyone, I have to say that I have almost run out of options with PPI's. Unfortunately I have had serious side effects from them including dizziness, diarrhea and upset stomach. At times I have said to myself, do I want to physically feel sick or do I want to have stomach pain so bad at times that it doubles me over. I was diagnosed with GERD approximately six months ago and it really hasn't gotten better. I have finally resorted to Carafate which actually coats your stomach lining and lower duodenum. Last night was the first night I tried it so I am really trying really hard to make this the one. I don't know if this doesn't work what I will do.

Re: has anyone tried carafate

When I first began this little journey of acid reflux years ago, I was started on Previcide, Carafate and Reglan. I had esphogitis, gastritis, bacteria H and ulcer. I did get better but sorry to say I haven't recovered from acid reflux completely. I think the carafate is good for ulcers or if stomach and esphogus inflammed, which your's probably still is. It's a good med. and I certainly hope it gets you well!

Re: has anyone tried carafate

I just got my first 3 jugs of it yesterday, haven't started it yet as I had my barium-swallow tests this morning (wow, what a wild test). I'll update after I start the carafate in a few days.

Re: has anyone tried carafate

I've been using Carafate for a year now, and it does help.
Also take a daily dose of Prilosec... and a bit of Mylanta
(if needed) in between.
