Health insurance for diabetic

Hello!

My husband was diagnosed with diabetes about three months ago. He is self-employed so we get health insurance through my employer. However, we pay the full premium, $768.40, a month. It has become a strain but in searching for a new provider, I have found that diabetes is an instant decline. All of you have to be covered some how? Through who?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Re: Health insurance for diabetic

Hi, most people are probably covered by group insurance thru work. Its a sad fact, but unless you are wealthy, most people could not afford coverage otherwise. My husband has diabetes, and thank god we have good coverage thru his work. Trying to find something other than group coverage with a pre existing condition is next to impossible. Sadly, America is just about the only country that does not offer its citizens healthcare. Maybe that will change after the next election. By the way, I have a sister that lives in Avis, and works at the Jersey Shore hospital. Best of luck to you.

Re: Health insurance for diabetic

Good luck to you guys. Late to the topic, but felt the need to chime in agreement with the previous poster. I'm a Type II diabetic with no health coverage or insurance at all. Even when I had a full-time job, I still couldn't afford to get health insurance or coverage. It's terribly expensive. Even now, I cut back the dosage to make the pills I take last. Right now, I'm on ACTOS samples. I only broke down and went to a clinic since my levels were getting scary (300s when fasting; 200s in the morning). Had to pay with a credit card, but I hope this ACTOS stuff works.

Re: Health insurance for diabetic

SSUP81. I Will loose the health Ins Jan 1. I will be going to WALMART--my insulin was Novalog 70/30 in pen form, $373.00/mo. The doc said I could use Walmart-Reli-on NovaLIN 70-30 in vial and syringe. 1 vail is $22.95 + syringes for less than $20 and You can use the syringe more than once. I use a lot-3 Vials a mo. I will spend $100.00/mo on Insulin. It is the testing strips that will put me under. My other drugs are < 100/mo. I will see about the free clinic in the area, but probably make toooo much.

Try to get on insulin--do you have a diabetis center near---call and ask the nurse for advice.

I am terrified and I know and you know ---WE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONES

Re: Health insurance for diabetic

It mustn't be bad enough for insulin, or else they probably would've suggested putting me on it and I hope I never do. I did go to the Redi-clinic at Wal-Mart, but, they said since I hadn't seen a doctor in so long, they sent me to a doctor at a center for "lower income" patients and those without insurance (yet, it still cost an arm and a leg to go). It'd been an entire year since I'd taken any type of diabetes medication since I couldn't afford the doctor visit to get the medication.
