Hi everyone
Just amazing how when I read this board - I feel like "wow, that's exactly how I feel" descibing the pain and weird symtoms of gerd/acid refulx - I feel a little better that I'm not alone. The chest pains are the worst, I too have ended up at the ER..... along this whole process (6month) I've been diagnosed with ASTHMA, SEVERE SINUS PROBLEMS AND GERD/ was put on Advair, that I felt really irritated my throat and made my voice horse, but I kept at it because I coughed 24-7 for 3 months --I'm off it now - now on Nose spray- dr. told me I need sinus surgery --but all and all - I think it's all connected - asthma/sinus/acid reflux - for me at least.
during and after I eat, just a yogurt for example I get throbbing in my chest, I have silent reflux, never get heartburn, but it is a sharp stinging kind of pain under my breast bone and localized to the upper right side. My DR. thinks I'm nuts, that I have pain radiating into my breasts, etc. Along the way here, I've seen GASTRO, PULMINOLOGIST, ENT, and the chest pain was like I said pretty localized. Over Thanksgiving -I traveled to family and in the middle of the nite woke up in sheer panic, chest pain, felt like my throat was closing.
I was staying @ my brothers and his good friend is a DO, I went to see him, right away he felt that I also (on top of gerd) had costrochondritis, which is an inflamation of cartilige between the ribs --it made sense to me because I was coughing for so long and so hard for so many months and on top of it and as crappy as I always felt I would drag my butt to the gym and lift weights, which not knowing I had costrochondritis, I was totally agravating my symptoms and it takes a really long time for it to heal.
Yesterday I had the PH capsule put in my esophagus, This will be the 4th diagnostic test I have had to DEFINITLY tell me I have gerd---I just want to feel better and learning slowly that you have to have a lot of patience (waiting for results of tests) and patience for things to calm down inside. For this PH test I had to be off Nexium for 10 days prior, can't take tums or mylanta, so I'll be off meds for almost 2 weeks and I only was on the nexium for about 2 weeks. What a vicious cycle. With the capule in me, I can definitly feel it, I feel like I have a fish hook in my esophagus, not horrible, because I'm so used to feel pain in the chest area. I wear a monitor clipped to my pants and have to hit buttons when I feel ie. chest pain, etc. The surgeon who did it was so much more encourging then my own Doc., but coming out of the anesthesia, the first thing he asked was if I smoked -- I am an x-smoker, smoked for my years, he said the damage was done, felt very bad, I have such regrets that I ever smoked, I was so stuffed up and coughing after the procedure that he felt I should definitly address any sinus/allergy condition that I could have........never had allergies, panic or chest pains in my life. Just turned 46 and all this has creeped up. with the stress of all these symtoms, causes a lot of anxiey on top of it I have spent thousands and thousands out of pocket to get all these tests, I have crappy insurance. so all that adds to this whole thing too.
I'm losing weight by the week, can't eat anything, swallowing is getting bad too, (went for a test for that last week) I just don't understand why the DR.s don't get all the other symtoms of acid reflux ie: like chest pain/palpitations -- at least my dr. doesn't. He thinks I'm just an anxious person --never had panic or anxiety attacks in my life before all this!
I probably won't get the results now from this PH test until after December 25 -more waiting --I've been walking around like, some one is missing something and something is really wrong with me.
I feel for each and everyone of you and I hope every one has better day.
