PPI Stomach Pains

I started taking perscription omezepaole (sp) on the 12-11-07. On my way home from work today I experienced something painful and I am kind of feeling it right now as I type this. My stomach got really tight and it felt like someone had taken a vaccum and was sucking my stomach from the inside. I also started getting chest pains which I am feeling off and on and my nose is kind of burning. I don't get heartburn very often and when I do its non liquid as someone mentioned in another post. The reason I started taking a perscription was because of swallowing problems. the medicine has helped with that but now its the pain I am feeling right now...could the medication be causing this.

Re: PPI Stomach Pains

I've been on Protonix (twice daily) for about 1.5 months now.

I think this stuff makes me feel worse than I've ever felt before all my *issues* arose 6 months ago.

My stomach feels tight and 'un-natural'. Sometimes I don't feel like eating at all. When I do eat... what I consider a normal helping (for me), gives me tons of bloating & heartburn - it's uncomfortable. Not only that - but the food I ate for lunch will haunt me (taste it in my burps) at 7pm at night.

I'm supposed to cut back to 1 pill per day on January 2nd. Take 1 pill per day for 2 months then get off it completely. I'm trying to be patient and just wait it out and try to cut back on what I consume and how much. Talk about an automatic weight loss - I should take full advantage of this.

I'm guessing all this heartburn now is because perhaps my stomach is indeed reduced in acid and has a hard time digesting the foods I eat (compared to before taking the meds). I dunno..... some days are worse than others.

Re: PPI Stomach Pains

Funny thing is I had no symptoms before starting the medication three months ago, except non-stop nausea. My nausea is much better now, and I have ALL of the symptoms and am not getting any better. Beats me.....Is the medication working? I have no way to tell!

Re: PPI Stomach Pains

Thanks guys for your reply. janster you mentioned "tight stomach" yep thats what I get and yes since starting the medication that is when symptoms started up. I am going to stick to it for up a month and grin and bear it and then I will cut back slowly.

Yesterday we had our Christmas party luncheon at work and I ate salmon and half a piece of cheesecake and sure enough it was around 5 hours later that this crap started up. I am now getting anxious because I don't want to deal with this at work because the panic attacks will kick in. When that happens I am completely overwhelmed by them and as I told my sister they are completely debilitating to me.....this sucks

Same here.....

Personally - if I adopted eating like a bird (smaller meals more often)....I probably wouldn't have so many probelms with my stomach. Totally different than what I'm used to doing.

Keep your chin up....and keep us updated. It's nice coming here and just chatting with folks, learning and listening to others, makes it easier to cope with.

Happy Holidays!
