Post Dehydration and/or cough meds lower BP too low...

Just got hubby back from Urgent Care due to having the flu, crud or whatever you want to call it. He coughed all night long and was really worse than day before. He had been sick for a week and of course doctors out of the office.

He was dehydrated and I had given him one dose of cough medicine with synthetic codiene. His BP was 84/41 which was way too low. His normal BP ranged from 126-137/76-84.

He was diagnosed with "acute bronchitis, clinical pneumonia and dehydration". Clinical pneumonia means the x-ray was clear but doctor's exam indicated pneumonia in early stage.

They gave him an IV to increase fluids plus antibiotic in the IV. This helped to raise his BP back up to a safe level before being dismissed.

Please, drink plenty of water when sick whether you want to or not.

I did not know dehydration and/or cough med would lower BP that much. So please everyone be careful, drink, drink, drink!! Don't learn the hard way.

Marie
