Question realistic exercises for lowering?

I am a mom of a special needs 6 year old with a full time job and a fairly large house to take care of. Any suggestions for where I can find a realistic exercise program to lower my bp? Going to the gym isn't an option as I don't have time or money for one.

Is jogging a possibility. I could only run a 1/2 mile 2 years ago. I just ran 7 miles last Saturday. If you run 2 miles two times a week, it only takes about an hour per week including dressing .. etc.

The idea is to raise you heartrate and to keep it there for a minimum of 20 minutes 3-4 times a week. That's the minimum for aerobic effect. For a beginner a walk at a brisk pace is fine (atleast a 14:00 minute mile pace. If you walk 1 1/2 to 2 miles 3-4 times a week it will be a big help. As you do more over time (a short time) your system will become more effecient and you will be able to go farther, faster.

You didn't say how high your blood pressure is, but before starting an exercise program, check with your doctor. If your blood pressure is significantly high, you may need medication, even if only short-term, to keep it down while you start an exercise program. Exercising with blood pressure that is significantly high (uncontrolled by medication) could be dangerous.

If your blood pressure is only borderline high, exercise may very well help in bringing it down.

Don't look to excercise to lower your BP. I'm an athlete and was put on meds 2 years ago. It's hereditary they tell me and boy did that piss me off to no end. I workout 6 days a week with cardio and weights every day. I will say this it is different for everyone it may work for you depending on what is the cause for your BP. I did however get myself off cholestrol meds by changing my diet and taking green tea, flaxseed and omega 3 fatty acids every day..good luck to you, Lisa
