Post My appt. with Nephrologist re: malignant Hypertension

My Internal Medicine doc referred me to a Nephrologist for what he diagnosed as malignant hypertension. I went to my appt. yesterday. I was quiet impressed with this facility very high tech place, a Diagnostic Clinic. The Nephrologist went over my records from previous Doc. He was suprised that first Doc failed to run 2 tests on me prior to putting me on all these meds. I think the tests were checking for renin levels and not sure but think the other test was an angiotension test??? Anyways now he says that to get the results from those two tests he has to take me off all meds for 1 month then run the two tests. But first will wait to get results back from other tests they ran while I was there. I really liked this new guy was very informative and friendly..actually had a sense of humor. Told me his diagnosis is "bad a$$ hypertension" and then he started laughing. My BP at Nephrologist office was 136/100 on my meds. The tests they ran while I was there were urine analysis, ECG?, and more blood tests.

I am rambling on cause I dont talk to anyone about this except this Health Board, spouse and my Doc. I guess it makes me feel better talking to you guys.

When I described my symptoms I always feel like the Docs think I am crazy. I gave him all probs I have and he said "hmm, doesnt make sense" ex: diarrhea only in mornings, tingling in hands/toes only in mornings, restless (pace the floor alot..always on the go), pain in right side only after I have been driving for over an hour somewhere, weird brown spots appear on palm or fingers then go away in a few days (this was present before i started any meds), weird roller coaster feeling in stomach before I started meds..now its gone. I forgot to mention that all the sudden this year I can tolerate 20degree and lower weather in a T-shirt..I used to be a big wimp about cold weather now the colder the better. I just told him in my opinion the majority of my probs are my meds and I also really believe this hypertension prob will go away on its own. He said no your BP has been high for 5 months its not gonna go away on its own...or else it would have already. He said there are two things it might be causing the HBP one was hyperthyroidism and the other I cant remember never heard of it before. Anyone have hyperthyroidism??? Can you tell me what your symptoms where and what your doing for it now?

So now I wait for results of yesterday's tests.
I just wonder where all this is taking me....

Wow RRR,

My dad has hyperthyroidism and he was put on BP meds a few years back..He is my step dad so no genetic thing there going for me. The doc told him that it could cause High BP down the road and sure enough it did. Cannot elaborate any more since I do not know all the details for him..Lisa
