Talking Lotrel

I am new and will try to make this brief. My family and I were hit by a car in October. I have since been diagnosed with stress related high blood pressure. I was on Toprol XL, no side effects but doctor said pressure didn't come down enough, switched me to Lotrel, started taking last Wednesday. On Tuesday morning I experienced the weirdest sensation of burning throughout entire body from inside. Pressure was 160/80, nerves were really bad. Also suffer from generalized anxiety disorder, much worse since accident. Anyway, burning went away and I was find until yesterday morning, started again, then passed and I was fine all day until last night when it started again and now this morning I have it. Cannot get in touch with doctor until Monday, has anyone experienced any reaction like this with Lotrel. I also have diarrhea. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi indianband-
Diarrhea can be one of the side effects of Lotrel as well as most BP meds, but it's hard to know if it's the drug in your case or a function of heightened anxiety since the accident.
Flushing and hot flashes are also listed on the Rx side effect monographs for Lotrel.
You describe the sensation as "burning" so I'm not sure if what you are experiencing is the same thing or not.
Talk to your doctor on Monday if your discomfort continues. Sometimes side effects (if that is indeed what you are feeling) are transient and as your body adjusts, will subside.

Good luck....

Zuzu,

Thanks for the reply. I did go to the doctor on Thursday and he seems to think it's the anxiety or perhaps the Fibromylgia I have. In any case I am back on the Lotrel and Lexapro and it hasn't happened again. I also start counseling on Monday night with an anxiety specialist so we shall see. It's just that everything scares me half to death since the accident and dealing with my husband isn't easy. I appreciate your taking the time to post.
