Hi Paulex-
Sorry it's taken so long to reply to you. Somehow your post got lost in the "shuffle"...

The proper way to take BP is before breakfast and before taking meds. Sit in chair resting against the back, legs not crossed, relax for about 10 minutes.

Take BP, wait 1-3 minutes take again, wait 1-3 minutes, then take again. Toss out the first number and average the last two. This is called taking BP according to "protocol".

Plus your arm should be resting comfortably on a table, limp and relaxed, at heart level. Tensing of the arm may give a false reading.

PS I must give credit where credit is due: I copied the above info from Marie55, who is a whiz when it comes to this stuff!

New re-vamped blood pressure Guidelines recently published by the Joint National Committee of Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure (Govt. funded study and their 7th Report over the years) now says that BP AT REST should be BELOW 120/80 (Optimal)...

120-139/80-90 (is now called "pre-hypertension". It's normal but not optimal)

Not sure about post-exercise, since everybody responds differently.

I think normal pulse range (non-exercise)can be anywhere
between 60-90'ish (even up to 100).......It depends on who you are, your metabolism in general, what else is going on with your health and body. 80 may be the norm for some and too fast for others.

Hope this all helps.

Best,

zuzu xxxx
