Post High Blood Pressure and Obesity

My BMI is 31 and my blood pressure is high by about 10 systolic and 10 diastolic...I've been told losing weight helps blood pressure but also that it probably won't make a huge difference. Has anyone found exercise and losing weight has helped? I dont eat salt in my diet much and I do eat healthily already.

Hi Anonymid-
Weight loss coupled with a solid exercise program can indeed lower BP significantly in many people....even by as much as 10 systolic and diastolic, depending on the individual and how vigilent they are. Don't know where you heard it wouldn't help much but it will.

As for salt, it's a tricky thing and for me, a hard habit to break but I'm beginning to get used to it...We shouldn't have more than one single teaspoon TOTAL in a day...and that includes not just what we add in table salt but all the HIDDEN sodium found in packaged goods, breads, candy, cakes, all baked goods, cereals, canned products, tomato or veg juices, condiments etc.
But you probably know that already.

So exercise away, drop the weight and you'll probably be very pleasantly surprised...
