Post Leg ache on Norvasc and Hyzaar

howdy all,
1st timer...

my mother has high blood pressure and was placed on a diaretic and then Hyzaar to control it. She experienced depression and other side effects including aches and pains in her legs. the Dr switched her to CCB- Norvasc, which seems to control the BP fairly decently, but she still has the aches in her legs. she is sometimes unable to sleep at night from the pain.

anyone have any such experiences with BP meds??
her Dr. is perplexed and so am I.
she has tried an angio-2 recept blocker, a calc channel blocker, and I believe an ACE inhib. also.
Its strange because each of these meds cause the leg ache???
or could the leg ache be related to the drop in blood pressure each drug causes, and not the drugs themselves?

she's going for a spinal x-ray and doppler for her legs in a couple days, but I feel these will reveal nothing.
we feel its drug related, but her Dr. doesn't seem to agree.
any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

Hi dmv-
I don't know what pharmaceutical references your mother's doctor is reading (if any!) but, although not frequent, leg pain...in fact all kinds of musculoskeletal pain can be a side effect of both Hyzaar and Norvasc:

NORVASC: Arthralgia (a fancy term for joint pain)

arthrosis (a newer term for degenerative arthritis, or osteoarthritis)

myalgia (muscle pain)

HYZAAR- arm pain, arthralgia, arthritis, fibromyalgia, hip pain, joint swelling, knee pain, LEG PAIN (my CAPS) muscle cramps, muscle weakness, musculoskeletal pain, myalgia, shoulder pain, stiffness.....

So tell your doctor to do his homework!

It boggles the mind that he hasn't put this together as at least a possibility for your mom. Still, it's good that she's going for further tests, just to rule out other things..

Best of luck..

zuzu
