Blood pressure meds and singulair

I have really well controlled asthma - just taking singulair and zyrtec (I go on a q-var inhaler a few times a year) I have high blood pressure and I'm having problems with every drug they've given me. I'm wondering if the singulair is contributing to this? I've tried almost everything in the ARB family (diovan, avapro, cozaar, benicar) I took ONE norvasc yesterday and had such a horrible migraine and dizziness that I thought I'd pass out. They don't want to try me on beta-blockers due to the asthma. I'm going to try another calcium channel blocker next, probably cardizem.

Does anyone take singulair along with BP medicine?

Re: Blood pressure meds and singulair

I take Advair and Singulair with Dyazide and Norvasc. That has worked for me with no side effects. I am on a low dose of the Norvasc though so that might make a difference.

Re: Blood pressure meds and singulair

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to try cardizem next. I'm hoping I can tolerate it.

Re: Blood pressure meds and singulair

You'll need to check with your Doc and/or pharmacist on this one. According to my ENT, he says singulair is one of the safest drugs out there will little to no side effects.

Thumbs down Re: Blood pressure meds and singulair

Your ENT can't be up on the latest side effects from Singulair. He might want to read the latest warning about it. The FDA is investigating it's link between the handful of reports involving mood changes and actual suicides which may be attributed to it's use. Merck has updated it's warning 4 times in the last year to include tremors (which I had) anxiousness, depression and actual suicides. Your ENT is not keeping up with each update on side effects if he's telling you it's one of the safest drugs arouind.
