Tonsillectomy - Abscess on tonsil

I am 23 and after a year of mis-diagnosis and two minor surgeries it has been confirmed that I have an abscess on my tonsil and I have to have them out March 12th.

I've been reading a lot of peoples experiences online and it doesn't sound like much fun. Heh. I'm not going to let the stories freak me out too much. I did that when I had my wisdom teeth out. I got freaked out the night before, wanted to cancel the appointment, but it turned out to be a piece of cake. Now, I don't think this will be that easy, but I will try to be optimistic.

I've been given two weeks off work and then I go back. I work a job where I am on my feet all day, I am constantly moving around, and lifting a few big boxes a day. I am hoping two weeks is enough time to recoup and get back to work.

For anyone who has had this done, what was your recovery time like?

Re: Tonsillectomy - Abscess on tonsil

I was out of work for 7 week days, it was a little tough the first few days back because talking hurt. I posted a guide with more info about this procedure because I read such different accounts and wanted to collect all of the advice in one place. Just search the board for "Jordan's Big Guide to Adult Tonsillectomy."

Re: Tonsillectomy - Abscess on tonsil

Ahh... I guess it also depends on the method the doctor uses to remove the tonsils. He didn't discuss a method so I will just assume the most common way. Heh.

I am slowly accumulating things to watch and things that will aid in feeling better. I picked up my warm mist humidifier last week. I am lining up some DVDs to borrow from family. By the time March rolls around, I should be in order.

Re: Tonsillectomy - Abscess on tonsil

Getting closer. I have like 3 and a half weeks until I get my tonsils out.

I am just getting over yet another throat infection. I couldn't get in to see my ENT for about a week, so I just went to a family doctor. I've been on anti-biotics for 10 days now and today is the last day. I hope the infection doesn't come back before my surgery. It shouldn't though, I will think positive.

Two days to go. Heh. Wednesday is the day. I really can't wait to get this over and done with. Then I can be on the road to recovery. Heh.
