Sudafed Q

Is sudafed (the real stuff) supposed to stop a runny nose, or does it encourage a runny nose?

Re: Sudafed Q

It's a decongestant.....it can encourage your nose to run more if it's been stuffed up and you have allergy, cold or chronic rhinitis.

It can help to dry it up a bit, but an antihistamine will do the job better if it's running too much.

If you have a chronic runny nose, you might consider to ask the doc for a prescription of Singulair.

You didn't mention if you have a cold....be careful with the antihistamines...they're great for the first day, but afterward..can dry up secretions too much and encourage infection if you can't get rid of the mucus.

Re: Sudafed Q

Yeah I have a cold.

Better today, but yesterday my nose was running like a faucet. I was taking sudafed plus one benadryl, nothing really seemed to help.

I'll have to keep that in mind.
