Post Mastoidectomy

I had a Radical Mastoidectomy in 1951. I've had no measured hearing for the last 48 years. I had a Stapedectomy and a Tympanoplasty which gave me some improvement but it could also be bone conduction. I have been wearing a hearing aid for the last six weeks. The doctor's want to do the surgery again as the stapes has fallen out. Does anyone out there have any experience with this situation? Most of the doctor's can't say whether I'm wasting my time or will time do the job.
