Gerd

Nexium did little to control this pain that feels like someone is carving out my stomach with a knife and radiates in the upper back. When I stopped taking Nexium now I really do have acid reflux every single night just like when I was carrying my two sons. I think there is something more going on here than just Gerd. It about drops me to my knees. The attacks last from a few minutes to a few hours.

Re: Gerd

I am sorry that you are suffering so badly.

Have you had your gallbladder checked?

Wink Re: Gerd

I have talked with my physician & told her I didn't think this was Gerd & my sister-in-law said this was how she felt with her gall bladder. I've had acid reflux and heartburn before to know the pain in the stomach isn't it. It's more of a really uncomfortable feeling as fluids from your stomach are backed up into your esophagus and throat. She sent me to a specialist who ran a light down my esophagus. She said she did see some blood at the duendom (ms) but that could have been due to damage from acids from my stomach. I think perhaps it was an ulcer that started to heal as my Dr. had put me on Nexium a month prior to my going to the specialist. In the beginning I thought the Nexium was helping but after about 2 months the attacks are coming back sporadically. My attacks are in the middle of the rib cage (right under the breast) then radiates to the back in the same place. I have to take a pillow & put it under my stomach pressing hard and lay flat on the bed & sometimes I will get my husband to press really hard on my upper back area. I usually fall asleep trying to will the pain away. I guess I am looking to see if anyone has had this experience. Thanks for your reply

Re: Gerd

Did they check for H. Pylori infection? 90% of duodenal ulcers are caused by H. Pylori infection. You have to kill the bacteria before you can solve your ulcer problems -- taking Nexium alone won't do it. The other 10% of ulcers are caused by overuse of non-steroidal anti-inflamatories (NSAIDs) such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Naproxen. It's not safe to take any of those for your pain if you have an ulcer. Take acetaminophen (Tylenol) instead.

Mark.

Re: Gerd

No they didn't. It has been over a year now & I am still dealing with it. When I tell my Physician that I do not think this is GERD she just says "of course it is. You have went to a specialist that confirmed what I thought it was". I will mention the test to my Dr. & see what she will do about it. The pain is debilitating. When I have an attack at work, I usually sit in the back office head bent down to knees & I can't talk to anyone. I can't even do my job. I will break out in a sweat, etc. I would hate for it to be something more serious and it's just going on unidentified. I do not know what ulcers feel like, but this is somewhat of how I would imagine they would feel like. I just don't understand the pain radiating to the back. Thank you for your response. Thanks to all of you.
