Post hearing loss

Hi everyone,
I am 26 years old, and I have loud music induced hearing loss and tinnitus. I have had hearing aids for a few years, but they don't help as much as I would like.

I go to college and I have a job, and I get very frustrated when I can't understand what people are saying. I don't always tell people I am hard of hearing because sometimes they don't believe me. They seem to think I am too young to have hearing loss. Customers get angry with me when I ask them to repeat themselves, and co-workers think I am ignoring them when I don't hear them. Does anyone else have these types of problems?

It helps to have the speaker looking at me so that I can see their mouth, I guess I can lip read a little, but I would like to get better at it. Have any of you taken a lip reading class? I would like to get a how to lip read video, does anyone know of a good one?

I am a self taught lip reader but many local technical colleges offer these types of courses. I would recommend you go back to your audiologist though to be sure that the type of hearing aide you have now is still appropriate for the type of hearing loss and amount of hearing loss you have. Many times a different hearing aid can make all the difference in the world. Also if you did not get your hearing aids from an audiologist then I would certainly recommend you see one as they are much more qualified in the area than a regular "hearing instrument specialist".
