Wondering

Those of you who have/had taken very large daily doses of opiates that contain acetaminophen ("apap", Tylenol, etc)...I've always wanted to ask -- have any of you had liver problems? When I first started posting and recognizing I had a bad Norco problem, I made sure I didn't go over 4,000mg a day (of the apap) but some of you say you take really high doses and I've been curious about that.

Of course if you take opiates with no apap, that's different.

As always, am asking with no judgments, just wondered.

Re: Wondering

Hey Droop,
When I started with Hydro I was taking 10/500's or 10/325's.
Mostly the 325's. I only occationally got past 10 in a day then I Up-Graded to the Oxy.

I never had any Probs with the liver but I bet it took quite a hit. When I was on the booze I remember my side would hurt when I would drink so I knew then something was wrong and got sober quickly.

Nothing like that with the Hydro for me.

Peace.
Baja.

Re: Wondering

When I was using, I took 10/650's, and a lot of em. I was taking 24-26 per day of the 10/650 Lorcet. That's up to 260mg of opiates, and 16,900mg of acetaminophin, per day. And that was EVERY day. For 6 years.

I'm on suboxone right now, so hopefully that's all behind me. My pain mgmt. Dr had the foresight to have me take annual liver functionality tests. It's just a blood panel they run. My last one was approx. 8 months ago; the tests showed normal liver function. So I guess I'm just really blessed, so far. I don't know the long term effects (and I'm sure there are some), and I don't know how my liver is really doing. The tests I took were just a quick blood test. I'm sure there are more involved tests that can be done that will give you specific info on the state of your liver.

Looking back, I don't know how I'm alive, but I sure do thank God for it every day! Good luck to you.

Re: Wondering

I have abused pain pills of all kinds but, mostly hydro. I had a test done to check my liver and the test came back OK. Don't worry if anyone should have liver damage I should.
Take care,

Re: Wondering

Hi all, thanks for the replies. Mine have always been abnormal (before I used Norco, too) -- I think that was because of the chemo. I always stay below 4K so I've not really worried. But when some have posted these really high doses, I wondered.

Hope you're all enjoying your Friday night. My littlest guy - 6 years old - is currently sitting lengthwise in the laundry basket, with a blanket around him, 2' from the TV, watching a movie. My beautiful wife is typing away on some political bulletin board that I completely disagree with, the German Shepherd is behind me whining and 9 year old is lost in Pokemon in the next room.

And I happen to be sober right now. And liking it.
