I developed bronchitis on Sunday - I was placed on Z-Pack, Musinex syrup Q4 hours, Ventolin HFA Q6 hours. Although many of my physical symptoms have gotten better - including my cough, my chest is VERY TIGHT - so the Dr. prescribed me Oral Prednisone.
I have never taken Oral Prednisone and am afraid - can someone please tell me what to expect?
It will work, and quickly. You will feel better very soon. Taking it long term is not a good thing. However, my doctor has given me a standing prescription for a short burst, 5 days worth, and feels that won't be harmful. I take it in circumstances similar to yours. I imagine you're only going to take it for a few days. Shouldn't be a problem.
You must have heard about some of the side effects . . . some things that could happen with you but may not are that you might find yourself with a lot of energy and/or trouble sleeping, you might also have an increase in appeteit. As Buffalo Gal stated, it's fine to take in the short term (I've been on it as many as 20 days and I believe that is still considered short term) typically it's prescribed for 5-10 days depending on the case. You should feel better quickly.
