Question help withdrawing Oxy/Percocet

Hi I am new here so thanks in advance for any help.
Short version is I was diagnosed w/a 80 year old back at the age of 38. Started on Oxycontin 80 mgs a day went to 160 mgs a day in a year. I have for the last 2 yrs. been on 40-60 mgs a day and now I am trying to get off of this.

I have tapered to 30 mgs (3-10's) then got 5mg Percocets 5x a day, to taper to 25mgs and I am really suffering. My question is; am I getting the same amount of the medicine in the Oxy/12 hour release as the Percocet 4-6 hr release?
It seems so much worse since I switched to the Percocets, even though the dosage is the same.
Thanks, BMHB

Re: help withdrawing Oxy/Percocet

Hey bud --Welcome and congrats on the best decision of your life. In order of strength (for me) it went OXY- NORCO- PERCS. that is why you are feeling the way you are. You are doing a great job tapering. The finish line is in site, you just need to be prepared for the worse and go for it. I am on DAY 5 right now CT from 100-120mg hydro mixed in with 80mg oxy's every now and then for good measure! I wont bombard you will a whole lot right now, so here is what you do. Develop a PLAN. A solid taper that you can mentally get ready for. That depends on how much time off from life/work you can get. You will need at least 4-5 days if you just flush the crap. You can do it, I just did AND i have a stomach bug to boot!! Imagine that, someone really wants me to suffer this time. Read the HOME DETOX plan. Its seems like a bunch of stuff, but we can help you as the symptoms come along. Lastly, YOU HAVE TO WANT THIS. It will not work if you dont.

more later

Re: help withdrawing Oxy/Percocet

hey bmh,
your doing the right thing, first by wanting to stop is the first step. according to my pain management doc the percs and oxycontin are the same stuff but act differently in the body. of course everyone knows oxy is a slow release type of drug, he also said oxy is way more addicting than oxycontin even though they are the same type of substance. well anyway doing a taper was alot better for me when I decided to quit, although it was still rough during the taper not nearly as bad as when I tried to quit cold turkey. like medguy said you have to want to do it or it will never work. good luck and keep posting alot of others will help you out along the way bass11

medguy,
You said, in order of strength, oxy, norco then percs. Are norcos stronger than percocets?
Thanks,
Shannon

That is from highest to lowest in my opinion (that is if you chew the oxy). Norco is 10/325 and The percs are 5/500 you said.
