Question abreva? :(

I've read some posts on here and other sites that Abreva can help the healing of herpes OBs. So, right before my usual right-before-my-period OB last month, I got some at the drugstore and applied some when the OB came. When I put it on, I noticed the skin kind of heated up but I thought that might mean it was working... right? Not so sure now. I was only diagnosed in August but usual my recurrent OBs have cleared up in less than a week. That was a month ago and its not getting any better. It feels and looks like the top layer of skin where I put the Abreva has been peeled off. I've got little cuts on my perenium too... and it itches like hell! They don't bleed profusely but a little bit after I go to the bathroom. Do you think this is because of the Abreva? It's the only thing different about this OB than the others. If anyone knows what I'm talking about here, PLEASE let me know! I've obviously stopped using the Abreva, but does anyone know how I can clear this up?

I've never used Abreva but it could be possible that what you describe is an allergic reaction, with the irritation on the perenium. Or it could just be that the Abreva is helping the herpes part but not helping the skin infection per se. Have you seen your doctor about it?

I've sometimes found that if I use a cream on a sore it seems to take a long time just healing. I'm never sure if it's because the skin surface is healing over but the infection is trapped inside, or maybe it's just because the cream tends to keep the area moist instead of dry, or maybe it would take that long anyway. *shrug*

Good luck. If you find out anything more, let us know.
