Never Been On Birth Control Before And Scared.....

I have been recently considering going on birth control. I recently found a guy I have fallen for and it's getting serious. I guess my biggest fear is the weight gain. I've struggled for the past 4 years to lose 75 pounds and I really don't want it coming back. Another thing that worries me is the cost, I have insurance...but i'm not sure how much of it will be covered....I'm really flustered I guess you can say. Any thoughts or stories you have would be great......

Wink Re: Never Been On Birth Control Before And Scared.....

Its ok to be scared, its all new. This is the first time i have been on birth control as well. Iam not into 3 month using it. Iam on Loesterin 24 FE for me it cost about $50, and I dont have insurance. I have heard its a fairly new bc. Some women do pay $10 and up, depends on what your Dr. puts you on. If you do decide to go do it ask the Dr they give you a month or 2 supply to try before you fill the RX for the bc. If there is a planned parenthood nearby you, you should try them. Before I started the bc I weighted 123, and now in down to 118, its true some people do gain weight. I have started watching my portions of food I eat, I stop eating before I get full. Now i eat out 1-2 days a week instead of 3-4. I have not felt sick from taking the pill. I have been very very lightly spotting which is also said to happen. And that happened for a day. But Iam happy to say Im glad I did get on bc, I bearly get a cramp, dont feel bloated, and I dont have a heavy period either. So good luck if you do decide to do it. Im almost 27 and wonder why I didnt get on the pill sooner. I hope I have helped a little bit.

Re: Never Been On Birth Control Before And Scared.....

I'm 20 and ive been on the pill for 3 years. My pill Yasmin currently costs me 62.95 and rising. Haha. I have no insurance either but when i did my insurance covered the whole price. When i first started the pill I gained about 20 pounds until I was put on Yasmin to help maintain my weight. So now since ive been on this pill its done a great job maintaining it, but i can't really seem to lose any. At least i don't gain any though. If you want you could call the pharmacy you use, tell them what kind of insurance you have and they should be able to tell you if they will cover a prescription for the BC. Even if you called the insurance itself they should tell you something that might help. I know that my experience on BC has helped eased my mind a great deal about pregnancy though. There is so many more young women out there they are getting pregnant nowadays. It seems everyday i hear a new "she's pregnant!" story. The only real fall back i have had on my pill is the libido. My libido really fluctuated on each pill I was on. On yasmin...thats the ONLY thing i dont like about it. But im willing to deal with it. Good luck!

Re: Never Been On Birth Control Before And Scared.....

I love the pill! I hasn't caused me any weight gain at all. I was actually the same weight after taking it and it didn't change. I began a new fitness routine and lost plenty of weight and had no trouble with that while being on the pill. Some lades say the pill made them crave more foods, so they ate more, and gained weight that way, but they didn't gain for no reason (it was the food of course). Yasmin (which I take) helps with bloating so you don't gain a bunch of water weight on your periods either.

I have been lucky and don't feel any libido changes due to my pill. Of course if I'm very, very stressed or exhausted, my sex drive goes down, but overall it's great and not low at all.

I have insurance and for Yasmin it's $20 a month after insurance. Of course some people pay less, some more. Mine has always been $20/month and is very worth it. Buying condoms would probably cost me more and I just wouldn't feel as safe using them in case one broke or slipped off. Plus, the pill makes my periods much more manageable.
