Finally a diagnosis, Rx of tapazole

Just got off the phone with the nurse and she said the Dr reviewed all my tests and has decided to put me on tapazole, 10 mg daily. I am to retest in 4 weeks. I asked what his diagnosis was and she said he says I am a little bit hyper. I guess we will see how this works out. I am disappointed because at my first appointment he was clear that he wanted to see me back to go over everything in person, sigh...

Re: Finally a diagnosis, Rx of tapazole

It seems like endos forget what they say half the time, mine seems to contradict himself at times. It took 6 months after testing to finally put me on tapazole. He thought it was sub-acute thyroiditis at first, cause my levels changed a little on their own, he did more tests, thyroid uptake scan and decided Iwould do well on a little tapazole. I only took 2.5 at first. I was on that for about 7 months or so, and I stopped it for a couple of weeks. That's another story, anyway I was raised to 5 after that cause he thought the tsh was down too much. I saw him at first in April of 06 then July, then he put me on meds the end of August. It's good he's seeing you in 4 weeks, levels can sometimes change fast and you can go from one end to the other. make sure at each visit to get copies of your labwork, so you can track yourself. It'll show the lab ranges and where you are in them. You'll soon learn to know the levels by heart almost and you'll know what's hyper and hypo. Good luck!

Re: Finally a diagnosis, Rx of tapazole

I was also wondering if anyone could tell me since I am always cold, even when others are warm, should I expect this to change on this medication? This is what is confusing me, since I have hypo symptoms, and am taking medication for "hyper" thyroid, what should I expect to change if anything?
Thanks

Re: Finally a diagnosis, Rx of tapazole

I remember going through some of that cold stuff myself but it was more in the time I was on meds a few months. You should find out if you have Graves disease first or are truly hyper before taking meds. Do you know what your bloodwork results were? Was your tsh suppressed or very low, like 0.1 ? Mine was undetectable at first.
