Unhappy Heavy, painful period on Yasmin

I've always had very irregular periods when I'm not on the pill, fluctuating between not having one for months at a time and then having them that last for months. I was on Yasmin for years and then ran out and was off them for almost a year. The doc put me back on them and got through the pills and started my period on about day 3 into the sugar pills (Sunday). Since my period started, I have had the worst cramps of my life...the lay in the fetal position and cry kinda cramps. I'm bleeding extemely heavy with lots of gushing and half dollar size clots. I've been taking ibuprofin 800, even tried hydrocodone, heating pads, warm baths (which just turn disgusting). I started a new pack of pills yesterday.

Is this normal? I feel stupid calling my doc if she's just gonna tell me this is normal. Although I plan on calling her tomorrow if it doesn't ease up. I guess my thinking is that the bcp is supposed to make your periods lighter...not worse. Help!!!

Re: Heavy, painful period on Yasmin

We all experience birth control pills differently. Perhaps the "break" on the pill contributed to your pain? But in my case-I could not take Yasmin! I was on it for a little over 1 year but it caused my periods to gradually get heavier-not right away like it sounds like you-but the pain got worse and I had other odd symptoms too. I had to talk my Dr out of that pill, too as Gyns tend to love that pill for some reason!

I am doing much better on Apri which is an older pill.

Re: Heavy, painful period on Yasmin

This does not seem normal to me!! Doesn't sound like your body is doing well with Yasmin at all. I used to get bad nausea during my periods and would get sick over and over. I went on Yasmin and it completely stopped the nausea and I NEVER get cramps. It also made my period much lighter. The pill often DOES help with cramps and makes your periods lighter, so if this keeps on happening with you, I'd definitely try something else! I'd talk to your doctor about it. Cramps that bad don't sound like something you should have to deal with!
