Inderal causing pulmonary fibrosis?

I was doing some research for a friend on some anti-anxiety meds that aren't benzos and found something on Inderal instead.

I read that Inderal and other beta blockers can cause pulmonary fibrosis and even congestive heart failure. Is this true? How long would one have to take Inderal before this happens?! And how much would one have to take?!

I have been on Inderal (well, propranolol) since 1996. I am on a dosage of about 10mgs a day. That is 5 mgs. twice a day. I have been cutting the dosage down a bit over the past year or two to try to wean myself off. Yea, I am that cautious. So now I am at that 5 mg. twice a day.

So this pulmonary fibrosis and congestive heart failure scares the (*!&*^#(*! out of me. My Mom was diagnoses with CHF last fall and was having a hard time of it and is no longer with us. She was taking 2 beta blockers. I wonder if it is connected to her CHF! And that really scares me for me now. Am I doomed too? What about those people that also have to take Beta blockers? What is the longest anyone here has taken them? Any problems with breathing?

hello, well I have been on ideral for 22 years now, I take 40mg. 2x day. I was put on them because i was having fast heart rate, doctor thought maybe it was anxiety attacks. but now I am 41 and I have tachycardia. I do not have side effects from inderal. the doctor wanted to switch my meds, but I am so afraid to, because I been on them for so many years now. hope this helped you. have a great day.

however alot of people do take beta blockers years and are okay
something to talk over with your doctor

Thank you for your replies. I hope more come about this. missm that is reassuring that you have been on it for so long and no problems. At least that is what I gathered from your reply, that you have no lung problems or heart problems other than the rapid heart rate. And like I mentioned, it is the rapid heart rate that I take it for.

Also the other chicky, thanks, as I am glad you haven't heard of long term problems with other people on the Inderal. It's very scary that we have problems from the meds that are prescribed to us to cure what ails us.
