Unfortunately, I don't know the factual answer to that question. However, I do know that not treating the acid reflux can also lead to cancer called Barrett's Esophagus, so it's important to treat it. My father had it and it's no picnic. I normally try and not stay on my Aciphex for long periods at a time. Sometimes in between taking it, I'll use rolaids, but even keep their use to a bare minimum. I'm trying to eat more yogurt and lose weight, which seems to help me out. I also believe in the healing power of prayer. : ) For something natural, I have heard DGL licorice works or taking digestive enzymes. I just don't do too well with natural remedies, as far as side effects go. Try chewing some sugar free gum. It helps me to neutralize the acid and gives me immediate relief.
Blessings.
