Nosebleeds

Hello

I have a bit of a problem with nosebleeds.

It's a recurring problem. Sometimes they just happened. I suffered the same thing last year, only I had it cauterised in about October last year.

It's really nasty. The past couple of days when I've been in the shower I've just been doing everything as normal and all of a sudden I find myself spitting out blood that's been washed into my mouth with water as my nose has started bleeding whilst I wash!

Last year when I had it, it started bleeding during the night for no apparent reason sometimes as well which meant I would wake up feeling rough as a God only knows what cos it all goes down to the stomach etc.

It's so messy. And sometimes it happens around other people and it's really embarrassing.

I don't want to have another cauterization, cos it's really uncomfortable and it was really painful last time as well for about 3 days afterwards.

Is there anything else I could have done that may be a better long-term solution to the problem??

Thanks
Luke.

Re: Nosebleeds

When you had cauterization (I did three years ago), I hope they told you that you need a humidifier in your room at night (especially during the winter), keep hydrated from the inside by drinking lots of fluids, do not use nasal sprays as they can make it worse, do not blow your nose hard, do not pick your nose and also a light coating of Vaseline just inside the nostrils when the nose gets dry.

The reason most of your nose bleeds are hitting in the shower is the clots are breaking loose due to the moist heat.

I was told that if my problem continued or restarted, they would refer me to an ear, nose and throat specialist. I believe this is something you should do.

Mean time, you may need to get another cauterization if you are losing a lot of blood. I know how miserable they are. That so called pain killing stuff they stick up there before they do it did nothing for me.

Hang in there!

Thumbs down Re: Nosebleeds

Know exactly what you mean Lindaru!!

To be honest with you, I went to an ENT consultant for that cauterization, cos I don't trust my doctor with anything. I always feel like he doesn't do his job properly - he won't do anything for me ever.

Also the other thing I think I might be doing wrong is taking things for headaches like ibuprofen. I have other things like knee pains and stuff that need the ibuprofen, of course that thins out the blood to reduce swelling and that must be unclogging it a bit as well!!

My parents complained and questioned the bloody towels the other day.

Bit of a mess on my pillow this morning as well. Ugh!!

Got another appointment with my ENT though for a re-cauterisation!! Ugh. Can't wait!

Re: Nosebleeds

just wondering when or if they have ever done any basic lab work on you at some point to just rule out other possible reasons for sudden nosebleeds to even be occuring in you(and to just check out your blood clotting factors too). that just sounds like ALOT of sudden unexplained nosebleeds to just have happening all the time ya know?

there just could be many possible underlying reasons that a person could get sudden unprovoked types of nose bleeds that really need to be ruled out at some point. you mentioned something about not feeling well and also stomach pain? just what other symptoms are you having? FB

Re: Nosebleeds

Oh no - that's after the nosebleeds! Like when you swallow blood, it's something like that groggy feeling you get!! If it happens in the night.

I hope there isn't anything underlying!! You know how annoying that would be, right?

We'll see. If this cauterisation doesn't work... I'd certainly be considering that!
