Strange Rash

My husband has not felt too well since Thursday, although not "in bed" sick. He's had a lot of stomach cramps. Yesterday, he noticed a strange looking rash on his chest. Red raised and odd shaped blotches that itch. They went away and then this evening came back big time and more pronounced on his chest and also on his upper back. He said he also feels off balance a bit. He has not started any new meds, no new clothes detergent or foods. No fever.

I've never seen a rash like this before. Kinda looks like a kid that dripped a melting popsicle all over his chest and back. I've look up rashes online and couldn't find any that looked or sounded like his. I'm familiar with shingles and it does not look at all like that.

Anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any input. Thanks!

Re: Strange Rash

I do know that after any viral illness, some people tend to break out in a rash. This doesn't sound exactly like that, but you might keep an eye on him for 24 hrs. and if he's not better, he'll need to see a doctor. However, if he has any breathing difficulty, please immediately get him to a doctor--VERY important! Good luck

Re: Strange Rash

Sounds like hives. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/hives.html

Did the pharmacy switch any of his meds to generic? I got severe hives from a generic medication, not fun.

Hives can also occur during or after a viral infection.

Re: Strange Rash

Thanks for your replies ladies.

He's gone for work before I get up for work so he went - must not feel too bad. I'm curious to see if he still has it when he comes home. I get hives myself and they always look like huge welts and his just didn't look like that. No generic meds. I guess sometimes rashes can just be a mystery. He had viral meningitis a few yrs ago that he may have had a rash with it - that's what is worrying me a bit. We'll know for sure if he gets the headache from hell.

Have a good Monday,

JB

Re: Strange Rash

Could it be Erythema Multiforma? Try looking that up and see if it doesn't look like that.....
