My Doc says I can go from 2 mg suboxone to 0....?

Hi All, I saw my addiction doctor yesterday, I am now on 3 mg suboxone.

He thinks I am on 4 mgs. I did this because I was afraid this would happen...

He says "next month, I will put you on 2 mgs a day, and then its , see ya later"! He says this is not going to be a problem! I think, UM, PROBLEM?

I have been here on the boards for about 5 months now, I have read a lot, learned a lot, and even learned who some of you are, I mean your stories and such. I don't think 2 mgs for a month and "see ya" is gonna be as easy as he says! Since I'm on 3mgs a day now anyway, does anyone know the best plan for weening off? because after the script for 2 a day, he isn't planning to give me anymore..... I do have some extra though, because I am on 1 mg less than he thinks.

I really thought he knew what an addict goes thru.... but I guess not?

Should I start weening down 1/2 mg at a time? if I go down a 1/2 mg, how long should I be on that lesser amount, - before weening off another 1/2?

I cant believe he said that to me, 2mgs for a month, and then go off. After reading your stories, that cannot be as easy at it sounds.

Any advice?

I believe in you guys way more than him, and thank you so much for sharing your stories , and posting.! I have learned so much from you... I would appreciate any thoughts....
and will keep in touch during this ordeal.... With much Gratitude....

Hey Sher,
My advice would def be to start slowly cutting back today, and eventually when he cuts u off u will still have alot left to keep cutting down and tapering. I was offered the opportunity to get on suboxone, basically begged by my family to get on it because of my heroin addiction, but I know how hard it would be to get off it eventually like u will soon be dealing with. What I did was just took one pill and split in to 4 pieces, and tapered over 4 days and it worked like a charm. I am now 8 days clean of heroin and 4 days since suboxone, and i feel pretty good. it really was a good way to detox, hardly felt withdrawl, very minor. well good luck and keep us posted.

Wow you are so right! 2mg is way to high of a dose to jump off of. I know I've done it. You have to get down to crumbs of sub to feel minimal withdraws. You will have withdraws even with crumbs but not as bad. You need to start lowering your dose now(today). How long have you been on the sub for and what dose did you start at? If you drop to 2mg today you shouldn't feel any thing. What I did was I would drop 1mg a week and then I went to 1/2 mg a week and then to 1/2 mg every other day for a week and then crumbs every 3 day for a week and then off. It worked so much better for me this way then trying it at 2 mg. I still had some withdraw but not to bad. Mostly I had a hard time sleeping and some of the hot and cold sweats but nothing I could not handle. You can do this but you need to start today. If you are not ready you can always find another sub doctor to treat you. I'm sorry your doctor is doing this to you. He should know better. I swear some are just in it for the money. I know a lot of people that have been thrown under the bus with their sub doctors and they always went back to using just to stop the sub withdraws. It is so sad because it didn't have to be that way. Some of them are clean today but not because they had help from a doctor. 12 step programs is where they got their help. I wish you luck and please keep posting so we can help you through this. Again I'm so sorry I know how scared you must be.

Re: My Doc says I can go from 2 mg suboxone to 0....?

Hi Countrywife & Mogj3222, Thank you for Reponding! and Thank you so much for your support. (Glad to hear your doing well Mogj!)

I was taking about 10, 325 mgs Hydrocodone or Oxycodone per day, "eating them" kind of, instead of food. I Started on 16 Milligrams Suboxone back in April. Quickly went to 12, and have been working my way down since then. Usually I get notified when someone responds to a thread, but for some reason I didn't this time. So, anyway, I have already taken my 3 mgs for the day. Its been 2 weeks that I've been on 3 mgs now, So, As per your advice ,Countrywife, Tommorrow, I will start on 2 mgs! I hope I can do it. If I can't, I'm thinking 2 1/2 mg, but I'm gonna try 2 mgs first. And I'm really gonna try to see if I can do it. Perhaps I should try going to some meetings, as well.

Also, I"m gonna print out a couple copies of Stickys Home Detox helper and tape them up a couple of places and do some Shopping tommorrow!!!

Thank you again for your support and help, I will keep in touch, and let you know how its going! Hope to talk soon, Sherbear38

Re: My Doc says I can go from 2 mg suboxone to 0....?

I don't think you will notice a difference going to the 2mg today. You really haven't been on sub to long so you should do fine with your tapering off. Do you think your doctor would prescribe you clondine (sp). It's a blood pressure med that will differently help with withdraws. It makes some people a little tired but it helps so much with the other withdraw symtoms. Just let your body stabilize on each one of your drops and then make the next one. you can do this. Its just we are always scared of that unknown. We are all here for you and I will help you anyway I can. I'm not an expert on sub but I have done a suboxone program a couple of times. Be proud of yourself for how far you have come.
