Horrible Mood Swings on Kariva

I have been on Kariva about 3 years now and the mood swings and PMS is so horrible that i can't take it nor can my relationship with my boyfriend take it any longer.

I originally started on Ortho Tri Cyclen Low for my skin. Well i was 103lbs and with in 3 months i was up to 145lbs. I stopped taking it and the Dr. put me on kariva because it has a lower doesage. I dropped back down to 112lbs. But the mood swings and PMS on kariva is driving me insane i can no longer take it. One minutes i am happy go lucky and the next i'm pissed off. But its only the week before my period and a few days into my period do i act like this. Then i am the normal and not crazy.

I need some info on different pills that are low doesage but will help control the pms. Please someone help!!!

Re: Horrible Mood Swings on Kariva

Supposedly Yaz helps women with bad pms (or at least it's marketed that way). However, many people on this board will say that it actually made theirs worse. I've never taken it, so I can't comment on it. If the problem has only been since the pill change, though, you'll probably just have to switch pills. Before switching pills, though, you might try taking a B complex vitamin every day and see if that helps. Birth control pills deplete many of the B vitamins and that could be what's causing your problem. It might not be the case, but it's worth a shot.

Re: Horrible Mood Swings on Kariva

Thanks for that info! I did some research last night and read that about the vitamin b complex. So I started a new pack today along with the vitamins. I will see how that goes, I also made an appointment with the dr. so that if it doesn't work I can get on something else. I'm tired of feeling like I could just snap at any moment.

Re: Horrible Mood Swings on Kariva

I tried Kariva as well when Ortho Tri Cyclen (Tri Sprintec) gave me horrible mood swings. I was on Kariva for maybe about 2 weeks when I noticed my appetite was completely gone and I lost about 10% of my total body weight, and I'm very small to begin with. Also, I experienced terrible depression and mood swings. I was taking a vitamin B complex throughout my entire time of trying out different BCPs and it never seemed to work. I eventually went off BC completely.
