kydney stones or what?!?!?!

I dont know what is going on with my kydneys, lately they hurt. It all started about 9 days ago. I started to get a dull pain on my lower stomach right side, it wasn't painful but a couple times pain was extremely sharp but it only lasted a few seconds. I have noticed that im peeing more often but there is no pain or blood when i pee. what is worse is that 2 days ago the pain was gone but it went to the left side. The other kydney? At one point both kydneys were hurting but eventually the left one stopped. The right kydney still hurts. Although the pain is not very painful the times that it got painful it made me stop what i was doing. I have noticed that when i woke up it doesnt hurts as much. I also have noticed that eating causes pain to raise a bit. i suffer from hypothyroidism but i dont know if it has anything to do with it. if anyone has any idea, opinions, questions or comments, please do so. thanks

Re: kidney stones or what?!?!?!

Wow i have the same symptoms but worse.. i feel for ya man! Ive been through hell and back the past 8 months . Ive been in the hospital numerous times , with and without insurance ( now i have united health care Medicaid) which doesn't really pay much, so the doctors are reluctant to do anything . Ive had 8 ct scans with contrast, 3 mri's , 1 bone scan, i have blood in my urine constantly ,i have a complex cyst in my left kidney ( Hemorrhagic cyst 1.7 cm with some layering ,thin septa ,and is partially exophitic and it enhances slightly ..its a 2f to 3 on the Bosniac scale ..that means 30 to 40% cancer ) i also have a hyperdense cyst on other kidney, 3mm .

I also have lung nodules 3mm, 4mm, and 7mm on right lung ,I'm in constant pain on my belly just under ribs ,on back and shoulder with burning, tingling sensation which i take pain medication (morphine) every day my rbc is low
my calcium is high ,Ive passed out numerous times, lost 50 pounds and to top it all off my father died of renal cancer at age 52, and nobody went in for exploratory surgery to find out what is going on with me ..!

Sorry for the rant, but its very frustrating for me at this time in my life too .

Now for your pain to travel from 1 side to another like me, I would definitely get scanned to start with .. i don't think its stones because to get them at the same time in both kidneys is not probable ,maybe PKD . I also saw you mentioned no blood in urine ,Because you don't see it doesn't mean you don't have it .. it could be a trace or moderate which only a lab can tell .

Good luck to ya, and hope everything turns out OK and remember doctors have a lot of patients ,you only have one , yourself.

Re: kydney stones or what?!?!?!

thanks for replying nick, it sucks someone else if suffering in a similar way that i am but in a way is relieving. im not alone... but im sorry to hear that what you have might be cancer. im starting to get burning sensations on my back. no tingling however. its really weird. im also getting random pains when i take deep breaths, they prevent me from breathing deeply because the pain is sharp, i have felt those pains 4 times, one time on my lower left side of my back and the rest on both sides of my chest, below the ribcage. its driving me insane. the kydney pain left for the past 2 days. i went to a doctor yesterday and he said he doubts is kidney stones as you said. he said maybe is colitis, which i doubt but im not the expert. im suposed to get tons of tests next week. hopefully ill find out whats wrong asap so i can get treated. ill keep you and readers posted.

Re: kydney stones or what?!?!?!

I'm sorry to hear that you're having some potential problems with your kidneys. I am a "stone factory" so I can appreciate the pain that you're going through (not trying to say "I know how you feel" because everyone goes through it differently).

I agree with Nick38; you don't always have blood in your urine if a stone(s) is present. It's a good thing that you are seeing a doctor though. They'll know which diagnostic tests to perform to hopefully eliminate certain things and pin point what's going on. I don't know much about Colitis, but from what I've heard, it's not a walk in the park.

In the meantime, I'd suggest tracking your symptoms so that you and your doctor can see if there's a pattern. It's helped me out a lot with my frequent Kidney stones and infections (for me, I have the most amount of problems when I'm under a lot of stress).

Not sure if that helped any, but just thought I'd put my 2 cents in. I hope you (and Nick38) feel better soon!

Re: kydney stones or what?!?!?!

I too form kidney stones on a regular basis. Knock on wood, I haven't had any kidney pain in a yr, since my last Lithotripsy. I'll be getting my 6 month xray soon. I'm sorry you guys are sufferning. I can relate to that God awful pain. I've only had visible blood in my urine one time many years. Anyway, I hope you guys find out what's causing your pain so you can get relief!! Good luck to all of you. Sue
