mixing contraceptives

i was just curious on this subject. do most of you use more than one form of contraception, or do you mainly trust one method? this is mostly for people who use the pill, as condoms/diaphragms/sponges are typically used with another method, like a spermicide.

i am currently on the pill, but i'm hyper-sensitive to risk and effectiveness for certain health reasons. what back-up methods, if any, do you girls use? i was thinking of combining my pill with vcfs or a gel like gynol. would that be substantial? any opinions, articles, comments, or stories welcome!

Re: mixing contraceptives

Hey!!
I think what you're doing is good. You can never be too careful. Me, I just use one method which is the pill Aviane [very low dose too] and in the 4 years my boyfriend and I have been together, we have not gotten pregnant once. A friend of mine, however, was using the shot without backup and now she has a 2 month old, so who knows!!

Re: mixing contraceptives

When I was on the OTC Lo I only used that one form of bc. I was on it for about two years and never got pregnant. After that my boyfriend and I went to condoms... and now I'm back on the pill again and plan on using just that. It's smart to use a backup but it's a hassle. Not a good excuse but if you're in a long-term commited relationship I figure it's okay.
Combining the pill with a gel is probably the easiest thing to do. If were to use another method that would definitely be the one.
