Question question?

I am due to have major surgery soon, and my doctor wants me to lose 20 pounds before my surgery. I once weighed 215 pounds and I am down to 140 pounds thru diet and excerise I am wondering how much is to much to lose. I lost 75 pounds in one year, my family doctor told me if I lose another 20 pounds i'll be a skeleton, I'm confused, I'm 4'11 but big bone. I'm almost thinking of going back to the slim fast diet plan and eating nothing else. I am wondering If I am really morbally obese as my surgeon has on my chart, or just overweight now? I am just confused

10/02 found I have herniated disc at L4-5, as well as having tears at L3-4 and at L5-S1
Had the IDET in January 2000 at
L4-5 level. Have nerve blocks under sedation at C5-6 and C6-7 also have swelling in the nerve that supplies down both arms and hands. May have 3 buldging discs in the cervical region as well.
**tried everything under the sun to help my back including losing over 90 pounds, nothing helped.
Had the prodisc surgery at level L4-5 on October 9,2003. It's still to soon to know how the surgery went. Not sure how the L3-4 disc or the L5-S1 discs are doing as they had tears at those levels, will be finding that out in November.

Hi I think I've seen your messages over on the back message board, haven't I? http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/t_up.gif Congratulations on losing all that weight! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif I know it's hard, believe me I know; I'm trying to do it myself.

To answer your question, according to the Met Life insurance table (1983) a female your height with a large frame should weigh from 120 - 134. If you really are large boned then your ideal weight is between 6 and 20 pounds less than your current weight. Of course this table doesn't take age into consideration. Generally the older you are, the more acceptable it is to be close the top of the ideal range for your height/weight.

Are you having to lose weight because of back surgery? I haven't seen my neurological surgeon yet but my doc warned me that the neuro may tell me I have to lose weight before they will do surgery.

Good luck on the weight loss and surgery http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif
