Immune Disorders in Children

I'm trying to get some information about a problem my son has. He had some immune tests run and his IGG is low. The four levels in and of themselves are in the normal range, just on the low side. However, the sum of all of the levels is about 60 points below normal. We are being referred to an immunologist but since my son is having sinus surgery tomorrow, they want to give his body a chance to heal before starting anything new. Does anyone know anything about IGG? The only things I can find that mention a low IGG are lupus, hepatitis and HIV. Tristan (my son) is only 5 years old and has been through so much in the last 18 months. We were hoping this surgery would be the end of it, but now they are telling us something new. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can you tell me how your son came to be diagnosed with an immune deficieny? Thanks

My son was diagnosed with an immune deficiency because he was literally non stop sick. Then he started getting serious illnesses like pneumonia and osteomylitis. Blood tests were run, the first test was a pneumovac shot and the blood tests to check his immune responce to the shot. He had none. To find information and a list of the 10 warning signs of immunodeficiency just search "primary immune deficiencies" on your web browser. You should find lots of information. The immune deficiency my son has is DiGeorge Syndrome. However there are over 80 different kinds, IgG subclass def. being one of them, as well as IgA def., common variable def., SCID (severe combined), hyper IgM etc... getting diagnosed is not easy. It took us 4 years to get a begining diagnosis of IgG sub. def., and only just last year the diagnosis of DiGeorge. It isn't an easy road for answers but keep looking and searching. Half the battle is just to know how to search and what to search for.
