Just wondering if we have any immunulogist on the message boards that can answer this question? I have had Hashimoto's thyroiditis for 10 years, that turned me hypothyriod. In the past 5 years, after an ultrasound they noticed that one side of my once goiterious thyroid is down to almost nothing. And the other side in shrinking also (less than pre goiterious size and normal) I asked my Endo about treatment for the Hashimoto's (I was thinking antibiotics because it's been called an infection) The Endo told me that Hashimoto's can not be treated. I asked him why not, he said that "Hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease that has imprinted the white cells to attack and kill my thyroid. I asked him "Well, what happens to the imprinted cells after the thyroid is gone? Do the imprinted cells just die off or do they move on to juicier endo organs? He didn't know and neither does my PCP? Does anyone have a clue? I even tried contacted Mary Soloman from "Abort.com" The supposed noted expert on thyroid disease. HELP!!!!
