Inspiratory Wheeze

Hi...

About a week ago I realized that I am wheezing on inspiration and occasionally on expiration. Its really weird. When I take a big breath in I can hear it coming from the back of my throat. Its a little squeak at the end of the breath. I don't know why this developed. I have a chronic cough for who knows what reason and I might be coughing more frequently...but not much more than usual. If anything, the coughing a night has gotten worse. I do feel the need to take a big breath/sigh more often-this may be some shortness of breath.

All this is unusual for me. I don't usually have respiratory issues. I've had bronchitis a couple times, but its been a couple of years. My most major medical issue is that I have GERD, which I take Prevacid for. I have tried to get rid of the wheeze with albuterol and it has not helped. Just wondering if there is anyone who can offer any advice.

Oh, and I'm a 23 year old, female, non-smoker.

Thanks

Re: Inspiratory Wheeze

I think i wrote to you yesterday about this but i was diagnosed with asthma in May after suffering for quite a while until it got worse that i couldnt breath. The doctor gave me a nebulizer for a few days then i got my own which insurance covered most of it. If you are having a hard time breathing maybe you should use the nebulizer. I too had GERD which also set off the asthma. Do you see an allergy/asthma specialist?? I think you need to at least give it a try. Even though you never had problems doesnt mean
you wont somewhere down the road like in my case.
My allergy doctor has been such a tremendous help to me and really dug deep into my problem for the main cause, whereas my general practioner doctor shrugged it off and only gave me things to cover symptoms. Even after telling him my story he had the nerve to laugh and tell me "oh sometimes the lung function tests are off sometimes". Now thats all nice and everything but i am telling you i could hardly breath. He also thought that because I WASNT wheezing that i didnt have asthma. All along I always had a suspicion that i did have it and this past year is when it got very bad. Had i not branched out to someone else i would probably be dead by now. HOnestly i thought i was going crazy because of the tiredness, breathlessness, etc... and him telling me it was something else.

Re: Inspiratory Wheeze

Heartbeat: Bronchitis is an inflammation of the air passages in the lungs. I always get a dry hacking cough with it. I never felt all that sick with it, just hacked my brains out.

Ginger: Thanks for the advice. My parents and one of my sisters have asthma and we all have allergies. I tend to have the least allergic symptoms but have tested positive for the most allergens...ironic. I stopped my allergy medication about 6 months ago because it was supposedly bad for my reflux. I was going to an ENT and allergy place which was before I started having respiratory symptoms. i'm not really sure if a nebulizer will help because i haven't seen much improvement with albuterol inhalers.

Re: Inspiratory Wheeze

i am having this problem, suddenly feeling breathless, but not to the extent of grasping for air. i have pain at my chest, left side , like on my bone or something. for my full story pls read my other thread. i am worried of some lung decease or lung cancer. i don;t have any cough, so can it be bronchitis?

ginger, pls read my other thread, do u think it will be lung cancer?
