Post IBS expert out there?

I have no idea what is wrong with me. It's been this way ever since I was a child! I have NEVER been able to use the bathroom regularly(#2). I have to pee A LOT, and I think it is because I have so much crap built up in my intestines it is pushing on my bladder. I have taken laxatives, I have been put on all kinds of things, and nothing has ever really worked as efficiently as indicated. Even when I have been more healthy in my life, it was still a problem! I have complained to the doctor NUMEROUS TIMES. I have taken enemas, no luck what so ever! I have eaten special foods, dorwned myself in water, and nothing! I have eaten bran flakes with fiber every day for a period of time, no luck. The discomfort dirupts my life completely, I have no sex drive anymore, etc! It was so bad one night that i went to the emergency room. There I was given a rectal exam and that doctor gave me whatever it is they make people take before they have surgery to CLEAN IT OUT! He said if it didn't work in a certain amount of time, to come back. Well, he said 6 hours, it did work, thank god, but it was mannny hours later than that! I just don't know what to do about this problem and i don't know what it is. COuld it possible be IBS?

Hi vanilla coke. I have a similar problem and also have for years. I was given had a hystorecomy this summer due to the cramps I had constantly. ( I really did not want that) The doctor was suppose to remove and overy and thought this would reduce my pain). Well
unfortatly it has not. I have been seen and tested by a gastorology dept. at MUSC in Charleston, he seems to be a great doctor tons of test that the other hospitals do not have. There are answers out there. Some doctors do listen and want to find ways to correct, you are not crazy. I have had a terrible pain in my back every doctor tells me it is a muscul spasm. The Gas.says it is related to this problem.
He has given me a new med. that is just for women to help move there bowels. band new on the market. Zelnorm (tegaserod maleate). If this does not work I am to call him in three weeks. And then another test if this does not help.

Hi,

You can open your bowels more easily without using this medication. Just increase the fiber in your diet. Take Metamucil twice daily with plenty of water. This is a a water soluble fiber supplement and will help you naturally. If you need a stool softener, then sodium docusate is good.

You can also drink prune juice to help and start probiotic supplement.

I don't know how long you have had this problem, but unfortunately, there are no quick fix solutions and it will probably take as long as you have had it to sort it out. Find the cause of the problem and solve this and you will be fine, treat the symptoms and you will only get temporary relief at best.
