Question Metamucil or Citrucel

What is better, Metamucil or Citrucel? I heard Metamucil can cause gas because of the Phylus. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure on this, but I don't think Citrucel is water-soluble? Maybe I'm wrong, but it's important to get water-soluble fiber in your diet. Maybe I'm thinking of Fibercon (as not water-soluble)? I like Metamucil wafers because they taste good and you don't have to mix them with anything. Just be sure to drink plenty of water with your fiber.

kurta,
Metamucil contains psyllium which is natural and is broken down by your intestinal bacteria. It ferments and does produce gas when you first start using it but the gas goes away with continued use.

Citrucel is a semi-synthetic fiber-- methylcellulose and is water absorbable like psyllium. Since it is not natrual, it is not brokendown or fermented by your intestinal bacteria. It results in fewer problems with gas. I just think we use enough processed stuff in our diets.

I like and use psyllium from Wal Mart ---Equate ---orange flavored sugar free it cheaper than Metamucil.

I have heard a lot of advertisement for Fibercon in the pill form. What is the information on this product?

Fibercon is not a water soluble fiber --- it is calcium polycarbophil. It is a synthetic fiber that is not broken down by intestinal bacteria. It acts like an insoluble fiber. Other brands that contain this stuff is Mitrolan and Equalactin.
